Name: Alex Rodriguez
Position: Third Base
Team: Yankees
Age: 34
Overview: Alexander Emmanuel “Alex” Rodriguez (born July 27, 1975) is an American professional baseball player of Dominican parentage. Nicknamed “A-Rod“, he currently plays third base for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He previously played shortstop for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers.
Rodriguez is considered one of the best all–around baseball players of all time. He is the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, breaking the record Jimmie Foxx set in 1939.
In December 2007, Rodriguez and the Yankees agreed to a 10-year, $275 million contract. This contract was the richest contract in baseball history (breaking his previous record of $252 million).
In February 2009, after previously denying use of performance-enhancing drugs, including during a 2007 interview with Katie Couric on 60 Minutes, Rodriguez admitted to using steroids, saying he used them from 2001 to 2003 due to what he called “an enormous amount of pressure” to perform.
You can either forget his 2009 season, since he was injured for a portion of it, or you can be smart and give it another once over and realize the guy produced like an above average third baseman despite missing 14 games. Let’s face facts with facts: 12 straight years as a 100+ RBI producer, 13 years straight (minus 2009) of 100+run producer, he is always good for AT LEAST 25 home rus and 20 or more SB—with that kind of clout, that is about as close as anyone is going to get as a top premier first round selection. He won’t slow down in 2010, rather, he will be healthy…pass him and rue the day you did it.
